Latifa School for Girls occupies two sites, which are adjacent to each other. The secondary school was originally built in 1983, with additional buildings added over the course of the next 15 years. The primary school began life as a small annexe within the existing secondary school but quickly grew and a separate primary section was built in 2002.
The Secondary section is well resourced and occupies a large site with playing fields, tennis and netball courts set in landscaped gardens. Science is taught in five well-resourced laboratories and is supported by two technical staff. The art department has two general-purpose rooms, and two specially equipped rooms, including ceramics facilities. The technology department includes a food technology room and a textiles room. In music, students have access to a well-equipped music department, including practice rooms and music technology facilities. Teaching rooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and projectors. The secondary school has eight computer suites, two iPad banks and four laptop banks, available to book for class use. A new school-wide wifi network has been installed along with updated infrastructure.
In the P.E. department there is a covered swimming pool, large soundproofed sports hall, fitness/dance studio, two squash courts and a cardio gym. The school has in-house catering in a purpose-built kitchen facility, attached to a dining hall where snacks and hot meals are served. In addition to subject-specific and general-purpose teaching facilities, the secondary school benefits from a well-stocked library holding more than 100,000 resources, including Arabic and foreign language texts. The assembly hall, complete with sound, light and projection systems, is used for assemblies, concerts, productions, parents’ meetings and other whole-school events.
Network personnel support and encourage the integration of ICT across the curriculum and there is a well-staffed media resources centre containing reprographic, printing and binding equipment.
