KEY STAGE CO-ORDINATOR
Line manager: Head of Primary

The Key Stage Co-ordinator is expected to:

  • encourage high standards in all aspects of school life
  • contribute to the effective and efficient management of the School
  • promote a school culture that is happy, purposeful and productive
  • support and motivate pupils, teachers and other school employees
  • encourage consultation and discussion.

The Key Stage Co-ordinator will support the work of the Head of Primary. She will share responsibility for the welfare of staff with other members of the Primary Leadership Team and deputise for the Head of Primary in her absence.

1. School Policies and Procedures
The Key Stage Co-ordinator will:

  • play a leading role in providing strategic direction of Primary
  • take a leading role in discussing and negotiating policies and procedures
  • take an active role in the promotion of good practice throughout Primary and Key Stage in particular
  • ensure that school policies and procedures are carried out at all times.

2. Overall Responsibilities
The Key Stage Co-ordinator will:

  • implement and evaluate the Primary Development Plan
  • advise and inform the Head of Primary about staffing and resourcing needs; the deployment of staff; staff training needs; Key Stage procedures and policies; new developments in the Key Stage
  • have overall responsibility for the efficient administration of the Key Stage in such matters as updating schemes of work; recording pupils’ progress; setting and marking internal tests; writing assessments and reports; and other similar duties
  • liaise with the Head of Primary concerning the timetable
  • be responsible for the collation of orders and maintenance of stock and equipment for the Key Stage
  • order items for the Key Stage such as furniture, play equipment, standardised tests, and stationery
  • ensure the working environment is pleasant and safe for pupils, and staff and recommend any improvements to the Head of Primary
  • negotiate the Key Stage organisation, deployment of staff and curriculum with the Head of Primary
  • liaise with the other Key Stage Co-ordinator
  • be a reference point for staff concerns in the Key Stage
  • have a teaching commitment as appropriate.
  • monitor attendance of parents or guardians at parents’ meetings and arrange alternative meetings for parents as necessary
  • construct the Key Stage assembly schedule
  • * oversee the organisation of the Key Stage pastoral trip

3. Responsibilities to Pupils
The Key Stage Co-ordinator will:

  • ensure pupils have access to a first-class education in the Key Stage
  • ensure pupils in the Key Stage receive individual attention allowing the teacher to determine whether special assistance is necessary
  • have a particular concern for the welfare and progress of all pupils in every class in the Key Stage
  • seek advice, when necessary, about pupils who are experiencing problems
  • keep the Head of Primary fully informed about the welfare and progress of pupils
  • establish clear policies and practices are in place for assessing, recording and reporting pupil achievement.
  • oversee the testing and assessment of new pupils
  • provide above information to the Head of Primary so targets can be set for future improvement
  • ensure information about pupil’s achievement in previous schools is used effectively
  • set aims and objectives for individual pupils where necessary

Extra for KS2 Co-ordinator

  • liaise with secondary Heads of Department as appropriate
  • liaise with Key Skills teachers as appropriate
  • liaise with Head of Careers as appropriate
  • ensure a smooth transition for pupils from Year 6 to Year 7
  • oversee the organisation of KS2 teams (houses)

4. The Behaviour Policy

  • administer and monitor the behaviour policy so that there is consistency throughout the Key Stage
  • evaluate the behaviour policy annually and make recommendations to the Head of Primary
  • organise telephone calls home to inform parents of behaviour problems
  • seek advice, wherever necessary, about pupils who are having problems
  • seek advice wherever necessary, about the level of sanctions to be administered
  • keep the Head of Primary fully informed about the behaviour of pupils

5. Responsibilities to Parent
The Key Stage Co-ordinator will:

  • keep parents informed concerning curriculum and pastoral matters
  • ensure the Information for Parents booklets are updated as necessary
  • be responsible for ensuring that telephone calls are made to inform parents of behaviour problems
  • ensure parents have clear and accurate information about their daughter’s progress.

6. Responsibilities to Staff
The Key Stage Co-ordinator will:

  • be involved with the recruitment of new staff by evaluating all CV’s received and assisting with the interviews of local candidates
  • review staff planning files
  • ensure that all members of the Key Stage are aware of school policies and guidelines on matters such as homework, assessment, production and use of materials, educational visits
  • allocate work and responsibilities to other members of the Key Stage and to be concerned for their development as fellow professionals
  • ensure that new teachers and teaching assistants are inducted into the work of the School and Key Stage and are familiar with all policies
  • inform the Key Stage about developments in education generally
  • facilitate opportunities for staff to observe each other teaching.

7. Curriculum Responsibilities
The Key Stage Co-ordinator will:

  • monitor and evaluate schemes of work, materials and methods used throughout the Key Stage, giving help and guidance where appropriate, keeping the Head of Primary fully informed at all times
  • co-ordinate the curriculum offered throughout the Key Stage to ensure balance and continuity
  • maintain and develop continuity and consistency between KS 1 and KS 2
  • develop and evaluate new courses where desirable
  • monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning throughout the Key Stage
  • visit classes on a regular basis and encourage visits by others, both inside and outside the Key Stage.

8. Reports
The Key Stage Co-ordinator will:

  • liaise with the Network Manager for the production of reports
  • draw up report schedules
  • monitor the reporting progress
  • review the assessment and reporting systems annually and suggest improvements to the Head of Primary

9. Whole School Responsibilities
The Key Stage Co-ordinator will:

  • oversee the organisation of Key Stage Mothers’ Meetings and Parents’ Meetings
  • oversee the organisation of Primary Graduation and Prize giving
  • oversee the organisation of Open Day
  • send letters to parents publicising the arrangements for the above events
  • liaise with the Headmistress and Head of Primary as and when necessary
  • provide the Head of Primary with feedback after each event
  • review the organisation of the events and provide an opportunity for staff to make suggestions for alterations and improvements

KS1 Co-ordinator

  • construct the Primary calendar in consultation with the P.L.T.
  • keep the Primary calendar up-to-date and keep the Headmistress, Head of Primary, and Primary staff informed.

KS2 Co-ordinator

  • co-ordinate the training programme for Teaching Assistants
  • co-ordinate assessment in Primary

10. Other Responsibilities
The Key Stage Co-ordinator will:

  • carry out other responsibilities as the Headmistress may reasonably require both during term-time and in the school holidays.
