| At present there are four teachers who share the first and second language teaching across the full age range.

| Years 7 to 9 |
| At KS3 students study English Literature and Language and are encouraged to read widely. In class they read and study poetry, plays, short stories and novels, as well as a variety of non-fiction materials. The students are taught in sets from Year 9 onwards. Those with more advanced knowledge of English follow a syllabus developed from the National Curriculum, while those who do not speak English outside school follow an ESL course.

| Years 10 and 11 |
| At KS4 the majority of students take the NEAB (AQA) English and English Literature examination and continue to study prose, poetry and drama. Others, while maintaining their study of literature, take IGCSE English as a Second Language and CCSE examinations.

| Years 12 and 13 |
|
In Years 12 and 13 EDEXCEL English Literature at AS and A level, English Literature Studies and Media Studies are offered. Students may also prepare for SAT and TOEFL examinations. In addition, all students are required to study Key Skills, of which Communication is an integral part.
