Pastoral System

The school has a strong tradition of providing students with individual care and attention. Year groups are each divided into two form groups, and every form group comes under the care of two form tutors. The work of the form tutors is supported by the appropriate head of year.

Primary
We believe in every person's right to be treated with respect and consideration and we encourage our pupils to be thoughtful in their dealings with others.

It is every teacher's aim to ensure that all children reach their full potential. Children will make optimum progress in a positive learning environment, which values all children as individuals and where success is celebrated. Children need to develop an appreciation, understanding and respect for the rights, needs and feelings of others. They need to learn respect and appreciate their environment and above all learn to manage their own behaviour.

Through a programme of positive strategies, using the Golden Rules, we reward positive attitudes and behaviour and teach the girls to work hard, be polite and considerate, and take responsibility for their own actions.

Secondary
The Senior School has a personal and social skills programme, in which there are two primary components. The first focuses on the study skills required by students to fulfill their academic potential. The second targets matters relevant to personal well-being in its widest sense, and in the process addresses current issues of concern to young people in the contexts of both the School and of society as a whole. The programme contributes to Latifa's objective of creating a friendly, caring, tolerant environment within which the girls can develop personally whilst at the same time learning respect for others and sensitivity to circumstances that differ from their own.

School rules are sensible; every girl is expected to obey them and every parent must sign a copy of the rules before their daughter can attend the School. Above all, we believe that our girls should develop a strong sense of personal discipline which will allow them to behave in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the school ethos. The essence of this ethos is that students should have every opportunity to fulfill their potential, academic and non-academic, in a caring, supportive environment. Latifa is a community which expects all of its members to behave with consideration and thoughtfulness towards others.
