- To establish a process of continuous review and professional development for all staff, to improve their performance where necessary
- To stimulate an improvement in the quality of the many tasks undertaken in school - particularly, but not only, the quality of teaching and learning
- To explicitly recognise and value each member of staff's contribution to the work of the school
- To support the existing work of all staff and encourage the acquisition of new skills by staff members
- To encourage and develop the skills of self-review
- To assist with identifying and meeting in-service development needs
- To encourage a sharing of existing expertise and an increase in professional dialogue within the school
- To stimulate the growth of mutually supportive professional relationships
- To build relationships that cross the boundaries of departments and hierarchy within the school
- To create an open, positive climate of mutual trust and respect between all staff.
