Continuous Professional Development

INITIAL MEETING
The main purposes of this meeting is to:
  • confirm and clarify the purpose, processes and methods of appraisal
  • discuss aspects of the job profile and self-review
  • agree the scope and focus for the appraisal process
  • agree classroom observations (i.e. dates, focus, recording methods if relevant)
  • agree on any methods, other than classroom observation, by which information may be collected, if considered useful
  • determine and record the plan for the remaining stages (timings etc.)
  • decide arrangements for writing the feedback forms (Appendix B).
This is an important meeting. Both partners are jointly responsible for setting up the meeting and need to ensure that a suitable venue is chosen without interruptions and that any relevant documents are at hand (e.g. timetables, job descriptions, etc.). This meeting could be a two-way process where you both decide on your individual focus. It is the opportunity to agree which areas will be covered in the appraisal process. After this, try hard to concentrate on this agreed area of focus and not be side-tracked into other issues.
