CHOOSING A MENTOR
Selecting a mentor should be a totally open choice and will depend on the focus of the appraisal.
Your focus may be:
  • an aspect of classroom teaching
  • taking assemblies
  • chairing meetings
  • communicating with people
  • dealing with pastoral matters
  • administrative tasks.
In other words some staff may have a non-teaching role or choose a non-classroom focus.

Choose a mentor you trust and respect; someone who has the ability to motivate you and with whom you can form a positive and rewarding partnership. This person does not have to be in your department or have a similar role. You could arrange a mutual partnership, where you appraise each other, or you could choose a mentor or be a mentor without reciprocating.
